Have you started feeling the Heart Beat of your home yet??
With the phones getting smarter, it is but natural to think of smart homes as well. OHM is the solution to your queries. We, at SustLabs, are working to make your life a bit smarter by letting you keep an eye on how energy is consumed by you every day, thereby helping you forecast your utility bill as well as keeping a track of the performance of the appliances you have in your house.
Some Fun Facts!
Overall there are around 42 utility service providers, out of which only 23 of them have their mobile app on play store that aids energy monitoring and bill payments. When we look at stats from a total of 1.37 billion population only 14 lakhs downloads is witnessed with an average rating of around 3.5 on the scale of 5 with less than 35,000 user reviews. And that positions them ahead of the curve and makes them smarter of all. Strange, isn’t it?
And, the most common services provided by these apps are:
- Bill Amount
- Online Payment
- Payment Status
- Lodge complaint
Whereas what consumers grapple with are things like detailed Bill break-down, Payment History, Meter Reading History, Consumption Trend, Report Theft that should help them understand the faulty lines.
Through research in late 2017, below is the list of service providers having their app with various functionalities :
According to the research done in mid-2018 on different metering practices of different states in India, various complaints have been lodged regarding different issues being faced by the consumers. In Maharashtra, more than 1.05 lacs and 2.7 lacs complaints were lodged on Meter-readings and false billings respectively while in West-Bengal, Meter-reading complaints registered were more than 1.3 lacs. In the areas of Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir complaints lodged on AT & C losses were approx. 40-50%.The main reason for technical and commercial loses may be due to
- Overloading of existing lines and substation equipment’s
- Absence of up-gradation of old lines and equipment’s
- Poor repair and maintenance of equipment’s
- Non-installation of capacitors for power factor correction
- Low metering/ billing/ collection efficiency
- Theft of electricity by illegal connection
- Tampering of the metering system
- Low accountability of employees and corruption
- Absence of Energy Audit and Accounting
In the areas of Orissa, people faced issues related to Billing inefficiency which marks up to 61% of the complaints while in Andhra Pradesh more than 4 lacs population in cities and towns and 2lacs in rural areas faced energy disconnection due non-payment of Bills. These stats indicate the issues and inconvenience faced by the consumers from the service providers which should not be ignored.
